This is probably the most frequently asked question, so it deserves a detailed answer. It is essential to choose the support that best fits your current needs. While I cannot provide a diagnosis, I am qualified to determine if you should see a different professional, and I will not hesitate to refer you out of respect for you, myself, other professionals and Bill 21 Chapter 28. Here is a comparison of roles and expertise in Quebec:

The TRA, Therapist for Relationship Assistance®:

Background: Graduate of a rigorous 1,250-hour professional training program (CRAM), specializing in the Creative Non-Directive Approach (CNDA®). I also hold a 125-hour certificate in Grief Support as well as 260 hours in Couples Communication and Relationship Assistance.

Field of Practice: Relationship expert. I accompany you in the "here and now" to help you find your own levers in your personal or relational difficulties into catalysts for growth. My approach focuses on self-awareness, the expression of feelings, and the power of action, without making clinical diagnoses. It is the ideal path for anyone wishing to improve their quality of life and relationships in a concrete and human way.

The Psychiatrist:

Background: Medical specialist.

Field of Practice: Treats severe mental illnesses through a biological approach. As a physician, they are the only ones authorized to make a medical diagnosis and prescribe medication.

The Psychologist:

Background: Doctorate in Psychology.

Field of Practice: Specialist in psychological functioning. They evaluate and treat mental disorders, personality, and cognitive processes. Their intervention is often focused on the diagnosis and treatment of mental pathologies.

The Social Worker:

Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work.

Field of Practice: Evaluates the social functioning of the person. They primarily intervene to help the individual interact with their environment (family, healthcare system, living environment) and resolve problems related to their social context.

CNDA® is a humanistic and relational approach developed in 1985 by Colette Portelance, Doctor of Education, who founded Centre de Relation d'Aide de Montréal (CRAM) in 1988. Following her training in Gestalt therapy in 1980, Colette Portelance had the idea to create a school. She developed this method to offer support that deeply respects the pace and freedom of each individual.

This last phrase resonates deeply with me; as someone who loves to dance, looking back at my life, I can say that for a long time I lived at the pace of a cheetah, which led me to burnout, followed by a severe depression that brought me to the pace of a sloth. I know for a fact that nothing and no one could have made me slow down or go faster. Respecting the pace is fundamental to me.

Carl Rogers: For non-directivity and the importance of empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard.

Georgi Lozanov: For the creative dimension, fostering learning and evolution through methods that tap into the natural resources and untapped potential of the individual.

As a TRA®, I do not offer pre-packaged "recipes" or directive advice. Instead, I guide you toward deeper self-awareness, helping you identify your own resources and remove the blockages that hinder your fulfillment. CNDA® is distinguished by its focus on the relationship—the relationship with oneself and the relationship with the other. It is the primary engine for change and emotional well-being.

I am a member of the International Corporation of Therapists for Relationship Assitance and Coaches (CITRAC)

In Quebec, the Act to amend the Professional Code and other legislative provisions in the field of mental health and human relations was adopted in June 2012.

Among the important changes brought by the law is the framework for psychotherapy, the practice of which is now reserved for psychologists, doctors, and holders of a psychotherapy permit issued by the Order of Psychologists.

TRAs are not psychotherapists. They perform acts that are similar to those not reserved for psychotherapy, such as the support meeting and support intervention. I am also a member of the International Corporation of Therapists for Relationship Assitance and Coaches (CITRAC).

Absolutely!

Sessions generally last 55 minutes for individuals and 1h15 minutes for couples. The frequency is established together based on your needs, although a weekly or bi-weekly rhythm is often recommended at the beginning to ensure continuity in your process.

Yes. Relationship aid is a voluntary process. Generally speaking, as discussed during training and validated in the field by my experience, the therapeutic work begins to be felt starting from the 4th or 6th session. However, you are free to end the meetings whenever you wish. A final "closing" appointment is often suggested to wrap up the process healthily.

To be effective, both partners must be present and consenting. It is the relationship that is my "client," and it requires the involvement of both parties to evolve.

For videoconferencing, I use Google Meet, a secure and easy-to-use platform.

You will receive a connection link via L'Assistemps before our meeting.

You simply need to ensure you are in a quiet and private location.

Sadly, not at the moment.
